I lost my job of 13 year this past July. I lost it partly to do with the economy, mostly due to poor business decisions by my employer and it's clients. Being a displaced worker after being gainfully employed for 23 years is a bit of a shock. Especially when my wife lost her job a month earlier (not to mention my daughter's mother loosing her's a couple of months before).
I have been lucky to have contract work with my former employer although that has slowed. The Minnesota Workforce Center has…

backpacker hostels is that tons of college students flock to them because they are cheap and entertaining so there is constantly plenty of student travelers around to get-together with!…

A man I've never seen before knocked on my door tonight. I refused to open door, asked what he wanted. He said he wanted to talk. I said I wouldn't open the door; it's 11:30 at night. He said he was neighbor from across street and needed to borrow $8 to buy formula for his baby. He is not a neighbor and I know of no babies on the block. The guy was white, about 5'8", skinny, mustache, straight thin brown hair. Wearing t-shirt, jeans (I think) and white shoes.

I’ve often complained about the speed at which vehicles travel on Central Ave. on the stretch between Lowry and Columbia Heights…. Well, it seems the rail crossing repair has created an unintended--or, perhaps, intended--solution. However, I doubt it was intentional since I’ll bet that the ongoing speed trap at 33rd is huge revenue source for the city of Minneapolis, and they wouldn’t want to lose that.
The new crossing at 36th is so far above grade that it has the effect of a giant speed bump.…

The First Annual Northeast Push Cart Derby at Waite Park was a success. The event drew over 100 neighbors from around Northeast Minneapolis to see eight teams compete in head-to-head racing. After several heats and some photo finishes, the Love Bug team from Cleveland Street barely beat out the Hayes Street Hot Pockets in the championship race.
The Waite Park Community Council would like to thank Lily's Coffee Shop, Culver's, Home Depot, The Minnesota Rollergirls, The Minneapolis Parks and Recr…
